Here’s a barna update on what voters are looking for in a candidate.
Just from looking at the images below, in comparison to all adults, evangelicals seem to care more about:
- Character
- Religious Faith
While they seem to care less on the candidates political experience and where they stand on certain issues. Except when it comes to:
- Abortion
- Religious Liberty
I understand why these 4 factors are important to Christians. It’s a part of who we are and what we stand for. However, my concern is about what we don’t value. These are the issues I believe should be nearly as important as the next citizen:
- Economy
- Health Care
- Gun Control
- Environment
Us Christians should want to see a more just and fair society, where the least of these are considered and given support. We should want to see a healthier society, where the sick have access to quality and affordable treatment. We should want to see a safer society, where wrong weapons are regulated and all weapons are denied to the wrong people. We should want to see a more beautiful world, because God created it so and gave us the mandate to care for it.
I hope that in addition to character, religious faith, abortion, and religious liberty, we can also include the others: economy, health care, gun control, and the environment.
